Inktober 2024 - 12 - Remote

What are the odds? Seriously, what are the chances that you'll actually get the expected result, here? Infinitesimal, at best, and that's being generous. What you're planning is basically impossible. Do you have the slightest idea the number of stars that will need to align for this to work? You will literally need to control the elements at some points. I'm talking elements like the weather, which includes wind speed, atmospheric pressure, precipitation, temperature, the works. There's also timing, in terms of time of day, time of year, actual year. Down to the nanosecond in some cases. Then there is the amount of skill required from all concerned parties. Parties which will need to meet in the first place. And agree, or at least independently come to the same conclusion. The variables are endless! And as if this weren't bad enough, luck is a component, too. You need both hard-earned expertise AND sheer good fortune for this to come to fruition, not just either of them; one cannot compensate for the other on this. It makes my head spin to think that you'll need epic love, great friendship, immense loyalty one moment, and monumental sacrifice and outrageous betrayal the next. You'll need compassion on one hand and ruthlessness on the other, you'll need finesse and discretion as well as brutality and violence. Face it: the circumstances required for everything to come together are so contradictory they barely seem realistic. This is all essentially pointless. The tiniest thing goes wrong, and everything could be ruined beyond saving, virtually sending aeons of effort down the drain. Why would you ever put yourself through all of that?
Why? Because there IS a chance. Because it is not, as you said, impossible. "Basically" does not mean "absolutely". And I am willing to believe in this, to bet against all odds, hope against all hope. Because not only do we not have anything to lose, we have everything to gain from attempting this. If we don't at the very least try, if we don't give it a fair shot, what does that make us? Where does that leave us? If there is so much as a single teeny tiny possibility that this works, no matter how small, how remote, how unlikely: let's take it. Because on the off chance that this does end up working, that it does turn into a success, then it will all be worth it. All the strain, all the pain and suffering, all the blood, sweat, and tears, all the worrying, all the planning, and all the sleepless nights. What else are we supposed to do? Sit back and wait as everything turns to ash, as everything ends never to return again? Let it all go because it would be too hard or complicated or long to even think about preserving it? We cannot possibly make things worse anyway, only ever better. And we are going to be put through the ringer no matter what we choose to do. So my question is this: as long as it's going to hurt, why NOT make the hurt mean something?
